Spotify have the become the kings of music streaming from songs to podcasts, giving artists the ability to sell merchandise and now the latest addition to the spotify platforms is... Selling tickets directly to your fans!
Although there is not much info on the new feature, a Spotify rep had this to share “At Spotify, we routinely test new products and ideas to improve our user experience. Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as important learnings. Tickets.spotify.com is our latest test. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”
In the past Spotify have been providing users with concerts from sellers like Ticketmaster and Eventbrite on its app and leverages users’ listenership data to inform its Fans First program, an email marketing initiative that allows artists to give their top listeners offers and has generated $300 million since launching in 2017, according to Charlie Hellman, Spotify’s vp and global head of music product.
Launching a designated website for presales tickets for Spotify listeners & fans in USA, with a select group of seven artists: Annie DiRusso, Tokimonsta, Osees, Dirty Honey, Limbeck, Crows and Four Years Strong. Joining the live scene at a great time as show return in full force and Live Nation selling over 100 million tickets this year.
Spotify have to be careful entering the new market with the relationships they've already built with other ticket platforms. But Spotify could find opportunities to grow further relationships with artists who have voiced concerns on royalty payouts and income from streams in general.
Playlist Plugs look forward to this new feature and giving artist another reason to push their artist profile!
